According to reports, it was Ayesha who re-christened the actress as Katrina Kaif when she made her debut in Ayesha and Jackie’s home production Boom. Ayesha wanted Katrina to have a surname that could be easily accepted by the Indian audience. Turquotte was hard to pronounce and that’s why it was dropped in favour of Kaif.

Katrina, who had maintained silence about her pseudo surname, finally comes clear by telling a website: “…yes, my passport name is Katrina Turquotte. I changed it because it’ll be easier for people to call me. Nothing more.”

The actress is presently shooting Prakash Jha’s film Rajneeti in Bhopal.
