I was waiting eagerly for this feature to be launched by Google, and I knew Google would do it soon. We can now search Google from any mobile phone which supports SMS messaging. Now, there is no need for an Internet enabled Cell Phone to search Google. But the most important thing and the best part of Google SMS service is that it is FREE! Only normal SMS messaging charge for a single SMS is charged per SMS query. So, for me, it means that I can search any query on Google for just 10 paisa(Indian Currency = 0.1 INR) as I am charged only 10 paisa per SMS by my service provider.

Google won’t charge a single penny for delivering the Search results to any cellphone(there’s no fee for the incoming messages from Google)

The SMS search service helps in finding Railways train and Flight schedules & Ticket status, Horoscopes, Movie show times, Weather reports, Currency conversion, Language Translation, Cricket scores, Stock Quotes, Restaurant information and more.

Google SMS is supported by all GSM/CDMA mobile operator networks ( including Aircel, Airtel, BPL, BSNL, Idea, Reliance, Spice, Tata, Vodafone).

Now, let us get started with Google SMS:
Step 1
Type help in the SMS body (upper and lower case letters do not make any difference) and send this SMS to 9-77-33-00000

Step 2
You will recieve a message saying “Success”. Now you can start Searching Google for anything you want (from above categories)

Step 3
For example: To search a movie Dostana in Fame Andheri Movieplex just SMS dostana fame andheri to get the current movie timings.

Try out the interactive Demo of Google SMS . Google SMS Help centre can also provide further assistance.

Now considering the Free SMS searching service by Google, it appears that Internet giants like Rediff and Indiatimes (which offer similar services at a premium fee) will face stiff competition.

Rarely we get anything for free. And when we are getting Unlimited Hosting Space and Bandwidth for free, then there is nothing better than that. Many of us shell out a part of their income as a Hosting fee. Also remember that I am not talking about any Blogging service which gives such benefits.

Synthasite gives these benefits and also you can create your own website here for free. For website you create in Synthasite, they allow free Unlimited Hosting Space and Unlimited Bandwidth. It is Quite Reliable too. For normal amateur web-designers, they have the facility of using their service with their website subdomain-suffix as in: anyname.synthasite.com
.

But the main advantage lies that Synthasite allows you to use your Owned Domain with the website you prepare with them. Also this domain is hosted for free on their servers. So no Hosting Costs even with Unlimited Bandwidth.

There are only 72 templates(as of now) to choose from so your website would not appear unique, but you can surely edit the template to an Small extent.Another disadvantage is that Uploading HTML pages is prohibited, and the maximum limit of a single file that can be uploaded is 5mb. But, Creating a website here does not need any technical expertise, so everyone are welcome!

If you have already hosted your website to any different server and you are in need of some hosting space to store your data then you can always use Synthasite by creating a test account.Example: You want to upload some songs and then link those songs for download from your Website, then you can surely do it.

For questions and more information about Hosting a website on Synthasite, ask in comments.

I searched a lot of websites for Good free domain names but couldn’t find any. The available ones where the those with unusual extensions like .co.cc or .co.nr , etc. Finally after getting frustrated, when I was just about to give up my search, I came across a website which gives [dot] COM i.e- .COM domain names for Free. There is not a single penny charged when registering or extending the validity of the Domain name.

I spent enough time browsing through HyperWebEnable and reading its Privacy policy and Terms and Conditions properly. I also read some of the reviews of this site on other Blogs like TechPavan. Even though TechPavan only shows the Brighter side of this site [because it is using its service], I will show you both sides of it.

The Things which I found Good:
1. Free .COM of your choice (yoursitename.com).
2. 1GB of webspace to host your website.
3. Unlimited bandwidth.
4. Unlimited emails (info@yoursitename.com, contact@yoursitename.com, etc).
5. Scripts of your choice(Blog,CMS,Forum, etc).
6. Technical support by email for your website.
7. Tips & tricks to improve your page rank and traffic.
8. Free renewal of your domain.
9. No hidden fee or payments [everything is totally free]
10. You can put Ads on your Blog [but in limited amount because HyperWebEnable puts there own too]
11. Full control of your blog and customization as per your needs.
12. Affiliate facility [Refer users to this service and Earn money]

Things that I found tricky and those I didn’t like:
1. They put 2 or 4 Ads on your website depending on your traffic. If you have more than 100 pageviews then they put 2 Ad banners, if lesser PageViews then 4 Ad units.
2. They .COM domain which they give you for use is registered in their name i.e. hyperwebenable.com and not in your name. So you don’t own it [You can just use it].
3. The forth point of the Privacy policy states: User liability – you are liable for all content on your site, including the legality and preservation (i.e. making back-ups) of same. This means there Servers might not be in good condition or they are not trustworthy.
4. The third point of Privacy Policy states: Limitations : Any content on your Web site that is prohibited by the laws of any sovereign state, obscene under the laws of any sovereign state, or otherwise considered by hyperwebenable.com, in its sole discretion, to be offensive, disruptive, obscene, inappropriate or otherwise an administrative burden, may be removed or deleted without any compensation to you. This means that they hold the right to deleting your account if you tend to do anything illegal. It might also be the case that your account is terminated without any strong reason under this condition.
5. It might happen that when your website is flourishing, HyperWebEnable will sell off your domain name for a very high price, Earning a lot of profit for itself. [Remember you don't own the Domain name so you cannot do anything]
6. You cannot upgrade your platform. Example: If you wish to move to any other platform like Wordpress or Movable-Type in near future, then you wont be allowed to do so. You cannot carry the domain name and traffic to your new location.

I know that even though the title of this article suggests about “Free .com domain names”, it could have more precisely been “Review of HyperWebEnable”. Anyways, I hope you guys understand the logic behind such Catchy Article-titles!

Recently there has been a lot of Buzz among Wordpress users regarding the use for free themes! Some Free themes were found malicious, which included encrypted codes into them. So this has given rise to suspicion in the minds of a theme users against the theme creators.

Some Bloggers don’t give proper credits to the Theme creator and remove their names from the Footer Credits. This has caused a lot of Theme designers to take this unusual step!

For keeping somethings in the Theme as unknown to the Theme user, the designers tend to encrypt it and embed it into the theme. They attach encrypted codes into a separate PHP file in the theme or into some important file in the existing theme. This encrypted code is not understandable to normal users.

What does this Encrypted code do?

This Encrypted code can do many things!

It may cause your theme to work in a weird way.

It may corrupt your database.

It may cause Hacking of Internet accounts of your Blog visitors by your Theme Developer.

It will show Footer Credits of the Theme designer.

It won’t show any observable results.

Removing this Encrypted code may cause your theme to show some annoying behavior. It may cause harm or Destroy your Database. It is also possible that this encrypted code is completely redundant and removing it won’t affect your theme in any way.

Isn’t it shocking? Of course, it is!

I have experienced this before in one of the themes I was testing for this Blog! Let me share my experience with you.

I won’t disclose the name of the Theme, but it was a Freely available theme. It contained a file named RELAY.PHP. I was not able to understand anything from this file, So I consulted a good friend of mine named Shashank, who is a Wordpress genius.

He observed the file and told me that the encrypted code in the theme is sending unusual information about my Blog visitors to the Theme developers. It was sending the following information about my Blog visitors to the Theme designer:

Server Address

Server Software

HTTP user agent

Server Signature

HTTP Referrer

Required URL

I was quite irritated upon hearing this and I interrogated more about this topic. Shashank also told me that because of these requests by the encrypted code, I was unnecessary wasting bandwidth. He also told me that removing this file from my theme won’t affect the theme in any way because it did not contain any Wordpress functions that my theme depended upon. So, I removed this Relay.php file from my theme and the Theme worked fine even without it.

I faced such encrypted code yet again in one more Theme! It was placed in the Header.php file, but to my surprise, it was affecting the Footer of the Theme. It contained the copyright information about the Theme designer. Deleting the code caused my Database to be deleted and I was left totally irritated. Thankfully, I was not testing it on this running blog.

How to find this encrypted code in Wordpress themes?

There is a Wordpress Plugin named Theme Authenticity Checker[TAC], which checks all your Uploaded themes for any possible malicious Encrypted codes. Using this plugin is highly recommended!

How to check, What does this Encrypted codes do?

I am specifying two online Decoders or Decryptors whatever you call them! Taree Internet Online Decode Tool and Raxor GzInflate Decryptor. For your general information, remember that these codes generally start with “eval(gzinflate(base64_decode(…“ or “eval(gzinflate(str_rot13(base64_decode(…”

I think now I have given you enough information about these malicious codes in Wordpress themes. If you need some more, you can always ask in comments!!

Domain names are the real estate of the Internet. Just as a good location is vital for a bricks and mortar business, a good domain name will be the corner stone of your website’s success.

Domain names are the real estate of the Internet. Just as a good location is vital for a bricks and mortar business, a good domain name will be the corner stone of your website’s success. But how to identify them? Below you will find the 7 characteristics of good domain names.

1. They are short

Good domain names are short. It is not a coincidence that all the three-letter and four-letter .com domains are already gone, and that the five-letter ones are going fast as well.

There is no definite number of characters that you should aim for, just remember that the shorter the better. If you really need some guidance, try to go below 10 characters, and never exceed 20.

As for the number of words, one-word domains are gold, two-word ones are good, three-word domains are average, and above that it is usually a bad idea.

Example: Quotes.com is a superb domain and probably worth millions of dollars. ProQuotes.com is a good two-word domain worth thousands of dollars. ProQuotesNow.com is an average domain and could be used for a website. YourProQuotesNow.com is plain worthless.

2. They are easy to remember

Many Internet users do not use bookmarks. They just memorize the domains of their favorite websites and type them whenever they wan to visit one. Guess what, if your domain is complex and not easy to remember you will lose these visitors along the way.

Example: Brcwr.com is a short domain name, but is not easy to remember at all, so it would be a bad idea to use it for your website (unless the initials represent the name of the website or a memorable message).

3. They are easy to spell

The last thing you want is visitors misspelling your domain and ending up somewhere else.

Avoid unusual foreign words, words that have complex pronunciation, strange combinations of letters and anything else that might cause someone to misspell your address.

Example: CappuccinoBar.com might be problematic for English speaking visitors. Cappuccino is an Italian word, and not everyone is aware where the doubles are placed.

4. They have a .com extension

Organizations might prefer to register a .org domain, and companies targeting very specific geographical regions might want to register a local domain (e.g. .it, .co.uk, .cn and so on). Apart from these cases, however, a .com domain is always the best way to go. This extension is the most popular around the around, and it is already stuck in people’s mind.

Visitors coming to your site via search engines or organic links will pay attention mostly to the name and not to the URL. The next time they want to visit your site it is very likely that they will just type its name followed by a .com. Guess what, if you are not there when they hit enter they will just go somewhere else.

Example: Darren Rowse created his popular blog on Problogger.net. Despite having a strong brand, some visitors were still going to Problogger.com. After a couple of years Darren decided to buy the .com version for $5,000 and redirect it to his site, so that no more visitors would leak.

5. They are descriptive

Many visitors will come to your site through the search engines and via direct links on other websites. That is, they will come if the domain that they will see will be appealing.

Having a descriptive domain name will give visitors an idea of what your site is about even before they enter it. If related keywords are present in the domain it might also help your search engine rankings.

Example: You would be able to guess what TelevisionGuides.com is about even before visiting it right?

Put it in another way. Suppose you are searching for a movie review. You make a quick search in Google. The first result comes from MikesLair.com. The second result comes from MoviesCentral.com. Which one would you rather click?

6. Or brandable

A brandable domain will have a nice pronunciation, an interesting combination of letters or simply an appealing visual effect. Sometimes they will not be descriptive, but they can be equally efficient.

Brandable domains will make your visitors associate the name with your website and its content. (Notice that brandable domains can be descriptive at the same time, but that is not always the case.)

Example: Kotaku.com is one of the most popular gaming blogs on the Internet. The domain is not descriptive at all, but the brand is so strong that gamers immediately recognize it across the web.

7. They don’t contain hyphens or numbers

Domain names containing hyphens and numbers are cheaper for a reason. They suffer the same problem of domains not using a .com extension or with complex spelling.

Consider Tech-World.com. The names that will stick in people’s mind are “tech” and “world.” Many visitors will just forget the hyphen along the way. Eventually they will try to access your site by typing TechWorld.com, in vain.

Numbers, on the other hand, will confuse people with the spelling. Suppose you registered Tech5.com. Visitors might mix it with TechFive.com, if they manage to remember the number in the first place!

Example: Coolest-Gadgets.com is an extremely popular gadget blog, with over 70,000 RSS subscribers. With such a huge readership you get people often typing the domain directly on the address bar. Needless to say that many of them would just forget to add the hyphen. The owner of the site bought CoolestGadgets.com afterwards to fix the problem.

Final remark

Do not get discouraged if your current domain doesn’t have all these characteristics; or if you can’t find one that does. These are just factors that you should consider when evaluating domain names.

There are plenty of examples of popular websites with domain names that lack in one or two points covered on the list. Just make sure that your domain has most of the characteristics and you should be fine.

There are some bloggers who are blogging on WordPress, but they don’t even know what is SEO. So today I decided to write an article on SEO and WordPress optimization for better SEO. Before writing any tip, let me explain you first what is it.

There are some bloggers who are blogging on WordPress, but they don’t even know what is SEO. So today I decided to write an article on SEO and WordPress optimization for better SEO. Before writing any tip, let me explain you first what is it.

Search engine optimization is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via natural search results. Typically, the earlier a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines. This gives a web site web presence.

How can we optimize our WordPress for it?

WordPress software is said to be optimized for SEO by default, but though there are some better optimizations which can be use to boost search engine results, in this article I am going to explain you all common SEO optimization tips.

Title of post – The post title of your article should be always user- friendly and catchy so that who so ever reads the title get attracted towards it.

Meta Title – There is a little difference between the title and the meta title. Title is the heading of your article or post while meta title is the title you want search engine to show in search results.

Description – Your post/article summary or discription should be catchy because most of readers first read the summary or description of the article, then if they find the summary interesting, then only they read full article.

Keywords – Keywords should be properly used depending upon your article’s summary as they will be targeting the search results.

Content – Some newbies thing that posting often will them to increase their site traffic, they are wrong!. There is no use of writing spam or review posts as no one will like to read your post, but if your content is nice or interesting, then everyone will like to read it which will help you increase your traffic so always try to write interesting articles.

Plug-ins for SEO Optimization

Hope till now you guys may be familiar with WordPress plug-ins as I told you about them in “How to install WordPress plug-ins” post of “Learn WordPress in three days” series, don’t worry if you are yet not familiar with it, I am again going to explain you.

Plugins are PHP based tools which extend and expand the functionality of WordPress. You can add plugins by just uploading it to your wp-content > plugins folder that is in your WordPress directory.

All in one SEO pack - Its a nice plug-in with inbuilt option for entire required field for SEO optimization of any post or page.

Socialize – The plugin was designed to make it very easy to manage. Instead of adding new meta keys, like other plugins require, there is an additional panel in your posts admin page that allows you to select which bookmarks you want to display. This is to encourage people to choose more relevant bookmarks for their posts.
