The T-Mobile G1 (previously known as the HTC Dream) is an Internet-enabled smartphone designed by High Tech Computer Corporation of Taiwan. The G1 will be the first phone to the market that will use the Android mobile device platform.[1][2] The phone is part of an open standards effort of the Open Handset Alliance.[3] It was released for pre-order through T-Mobile on September 23, 2008, and planned for availability in stores on October 22, 2008 in the US.[4][5][2] It is scheduled to be released in the UK on October 30, 2008, and the rest of Europe (at least in Germany, Netherlands and Czech Republic) in early 2009. It is priced starting at $179 for existing T-Mobile customers if purchased with a two-year T-Mobile voice and data plan, and $399 without a contract.[6] G1 comes in three colors brown, black and white. Android The G1 runs on the Android operating system. Most Android software developers write their applications in Java, but since Android does not directly run J2ME applications, they need to be compiled first to a unique non-Java bytecode before they can be executed on an Android powered phone. The home screen app provided on the G1 offers a desktop with shortcut icons similar to the one on Windows mobile devices, but gives the user three screens worth of space for storing more shortcuts than will fit on one screen. i really hate this phone.
slow 3g, browser crashes, and tmobiles service sucks.
wish i had never bought this thing
I have an Ericsson pcmcia card that I can put into my laptop. It takes the Internet activated sim chip so that I can use my laptop to access the Internet and my phone interchangeably.
Looks like the new G1 phone doesn’t allow me to do the same, so I would be stuck using only the G1 phone for Internet use.
T-Mobile is inconsistent and very frustrating with their services. I won’t buy a G1 phone simply because it kills another vital service I currently have. Those idiots!
You can give it to me if you don’t want it. I have one and love it, specially because of Android. Perhabs you screw something up
You can do that with the G1. You can do it even with Wifi, like using the Android as a wireless router.
