In this How to, Dionne shows you how you can improve the performance of your PC
That’s not correct. I assume we’re talking about Windows machines so here are the correct facts.
Your system will still always use “Virtual RAM” also known as a ‘page file’, even if you have loads of ram.
XP does NOT use 2GB of ram the very minimum is 64MB but the recomended is 256MB, XP 32bit (most common) can see up to 2GB, 3GB with hacks, 64bit is more. Same with vista it’s recomended you use at least 512MB 32bit (most common) sees up to 4GB, but can only alocate about 3.6GB.
Also most standered computers only hold so much RAM because the operating system can only take so much and it would be a waste of money otherwise. 64bit operating systems can hold a lot more than 32bits, but as 32bit is the most common not many drivers are wrote for 64bit versions of Windows.
We can ignore Macs and Linux for now or it gets into a mess! Also can we not bash other operating systems it’s been done to death and I’m sick of ‘Macs don’t get virus’ yes they do, fact!
32bits and 64 bits and the amount of RAM you can use is because of the number of addressing lines availble to the CPU. This is a physical limit at present.
Its good practice to put the page file on a dedicated drive anyway, away from your data, but the more memory you have the less your page file gets used.
I was refering to how the memory is addressed in a 32bit and 64bit system with regards the hole that appears between 3GB – 4GB. This address space is reserved for legacy components.
Its not guaranteed to be fixed by installing a 64bit OS either.
You can also remove the Page file altogether if you wich, but this isn’t advisable unless you do have lots of RAM.
You are correct that 256MB is the min for XP and 512MB is reccomended, but more is always better as RAM is faster than HDD’s for memory use.
Reading back on my comments it seems I came accross a bit angry, sorry about that. I think I was in a mood that day lol. FYI didn’t down thumb you.
really? cos my mobo (and most new ones) can take a max of 8gb, 4 slots, 2 gb each.
Auslogics Disk Defrag is another very good one.
Reading back on my comments it sounds like I meant XP uses 2GB where I meant for XP Users I recommend 2GB and for Vista Users 4GB
I call these the memory sweet spots for these OS’s as this seems to be where the best performance becomes noticable.
If you really want to make your PC perform then turn off all the bells and whisltes as these use unecessary resources and strain the system just to make it look nice.
You can also stop certain services, but this is IT Management area
I work with servers that can take 32GB
ok to put the memory issue to rest look up the following article number on Microsofts support site, 929605
thats a a server, so i would assume it can take more.
The lady looks like the girl from Ratatouille..
But uglier!
windows defender sucks too many popups , thats why i use avast ,and disk defrag would be good to use right after a really big install or download
true…
the only person I knew who didn’t know about the stuff in the vid is dead now
lol, no joke
There are over a dozen more speed tricks on my account, you can check em out.
32 GB yes on a 64 bit Microsoft Windows. 32 still has the 3.3 gig memory limitation.
lol
pause it had 00:39
hahaha
OMG 00:36 2.3 GB WTF
lol
i did this and it broke my laptop
biatch:L
lol that is soooo shit
lol i love it there is some ad there at 1:34 sec warhammer llol good game as well i think she is dl that instead lol
